AT&T $50,000 Contribution to No Kid Hungry Helping Feed Louisiana Children During COVID-19 Pandemic

One of our core values at AT&T is making a difference in our communities. Before the coronavirus pandemic, 1 in 4 kids in Louisiana lived in a family that struggled with hunger. With jobs and wages lost, even more families are now at risk. A $50,000 contribution from AT&T to No Kid Hungry Louisiana is helping ensure local children get the food they need during this unprecedented time.

“More than 450,000 kids in Louisiana rely on the free and reduced-price meals they receive at school, and with schools closed across the state those children are at risk of missing meals and going hungry,” said No Kid Hungry Louisiana Director Rhonda Jackson. “And for many children whose parents were in the tourism and hospitality industries, their family can no longer count on a steady paycheck. Thanks to the support of AT&T Louisiana, we have been able to jump into action to ensure these already-vulnerable kids still have access to food during this public health crisis and in its aftershock.”

Gov. Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards announced the No Kid Hungry Louisiana campaign and first annual Louisiana School Breakfast Challenge in 2017.

“Thousands of vulnerable kids in our state depend on the healthy meals they receive at school,” said First Lady Donna Edwards. “With schools closed now, contributions like this one from AT&T are helping us provide emergency grants to schools and community groups focused on feeding children during the pandemic.”

With the help of the No Kid Hungry grants, programs nationwide plan to serve more than 3 million healthy meals a day to kids who are struggling during this crisis.

We’re grateful for the efforts the governor and first lady are making on this front and for the opportunity to help.”

No Kid Hungry is a campaign by Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit focused on solving problems of hunger and poverty around the world.
