AT&T Preps Pittsburgh Network in Advance of the Draft
Key insights
In advance of the draft in Pittsburgh, AT&T made temporary and permanent
upgrades to its wireless network on the North Shore and in the Golden Triangle, which
include:
- Temporary cell site upgrades to boost coverage, capacity and speed at the
venue. - Modifications to an existing cell site near Point State Park.
- Upgrades to small cells on the North Shore and throughout downtown to
enhance capacity.
In addition to serving the thousands of fans expected during the three-day event, these
enhancements also support first responders and the extended public safety community
on FirstNet, Built with AT&T – America’s public safety network – by bringing Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane, delivering dedicated connectivity when needed.
And, as public safety’s partner through FirstNet, there will be a dedicated Satellite Cell on Light Truck (SatCOLT) powered on and ready to augment coverage for first responders at a moment’s notice. The SatCOLT is part of FirstNet’s dedicated fleet of 190+ portable cell sites, available to agencies on FirstNet at no additional charge for emergencies or planned events.
In Pennsylvania, AT&T invested more than $1.5 billion in our network infrastructure from 2020-2024, including nearly $350 million in the Pittsburgh area, to connect more people to greater possibility.
