AT&T Continues to Boost Network on Cape Cod & Islands
AT&T is continuing to invest in our network infrastructure on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket to help ensure that residents and tourists stay connected year-round, and especially during the busy summer season.
Over the past year, since Summer 2025, AT&T has installed eight new cell sites on the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard and completed upgrades to nine additional sites to help bring enhanced service and coverage to residents, visitors, and first responders.
On Cape Cod, AT&T launched new cell sites in Mashpee, Hyannis, Yarmouth, Falmouth, Dennis, and more. New small cell sites on Martha’s Vineyard bring additional coverage to Edgartown and Katama. A fully upgraded Outdoor DAS system in Nantucket was also launched this Summer with benefits across the island.
Additionally, new sites in Wareham and South Plymouth improve the wireless network for residents and visitors driving to Cape Cod via the Bourne and Sagamore bridges. Altogether, new and upgraded sites will support beachgoers experiencing increased summer network traffic.
Over the past four years, AT&T has completed 34 new sites and nearly 70 upgrades on the Cape and Islands. From 2021 to 2025, AT&T invested nearly $775 million in its wireless network in Massachusetts. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed, and overall performance.
“We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected, especially during the summer on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard,” said John Emra, President – AT&T Atlantic Region. “These new and upgraded network resources will help residents, businesses and visitors get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play. And we have a responsibility unlike any other network provider to support the public safety mission by bringing Massachusetts first responders greater access to the reliable connectivity they need through Band 14 and FirstNet.”
Some of these network enhancements also support first responders and the extended public safety community on FirstNet®, Built with AT&T – America’s public safety network – by bringing Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane, delivering truly dedicated connectivity when needed. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.
Created by the U.S. Congress, FirstNet was shaped by the first responder community’s vision following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It is built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the FirstNet Authority – an agency within the federal government. AT&T’s investment on Cape Cod also extends to the broader community. Recently, AT&T and the nonprofit Computers 4 People donated 100 laptops to Cape Cod families in need. Devices were given to multiple organizations on Cape Cod to distribute to those they serve, including the Brazilian Resource Center, Cape Cod Commission, and others. Residents of Yarmouth, South Yarmouth, Barnstable, Falmouth, Harwich, Hyannis and Centerville attended an event in May to receive their devices.
