Key insights
AT&T and Computers 4 People (C4P) provided 100 refurbished laptops recently to
Cape Cod students and families in need.
The computers, funded by a $10,000 AT&T investment in C4P, were given to multiple
organizations on Cape Cod to distribute to those they serve, including the Brazilian Resource Center, Cape Cod Commission and others. The organizations serve the entire Cape. Residents of Yarmouth, South Yarmouth, Barnstable, Falmouth, Harwich, Hyannis and Centerville attended today’s event to receive their devices.
“In today’s digital age, access to the internet and computers is crucial for education, work opportunities, and connection. BRC is honored to collaborate with C4P and AT&T,” said Michael Mecenas, President and Founder of the Brazilian Resource Center. “Let’s work together to bridge the digital divide and ensure every family has the tools they need to thrive.”
The devices were distributed at an event at the Brazilian Resource Center. Over 100
people attended, including State Senator Julien Cyr.
Computers 4 People is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide by repurposing e-waste into educational tools for under-resourced communities in Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey.
“This initiative exemplifies the power of partnerships among organizations from diverse
sectors, all dedicated to bridging the digital divide and providing access to our
communities,” said Dylan Zajac, Founder and Executive Director of Computers 4
People. “With the generous support from AT&T and the combined efforts of several
organizations, we are ensuring 100 Cape Cod families have the resources necessary to
thrive in the digital age.”
This effort is part of AT&T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet
accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030. This includes distributing thousands of computers to students and their families across Massachusetts since 2021. AT&T will distribute 30,000 laptops nationwide in 2026.
AT&T has been working in other ways to help ensure that residents and tourists on Cape Cod and the Islands stay connected. In recent years, AT&T has installed and
upgraded dozens of cell sites on the Cape to help bring enhanced 5G service and
coverage to residents and visitors.
AT&T is proud to collaborate with organizations like C4P to help close the digital divide
on Cape Cod. We know that access to connectivity is vital in helping to bridge the digital
divide and we’re glad we can provide these resources to those that need them most.
