AT&T Boosts Network Speeds for Fayette County

AT&T* customers and FirstNet® subscribers in Fayette County got a big boost in wireless connectivity. A new cell tower will enhance the area’s coverage and help give residents and first responders faster, more reliable wireless service. Our investment is helping improve internet access and ensuring customers get the most out of their mobile devices.

This new site will enhance AT&T’s coverage and capacity along Jernigan Drive and in surrounding areas east of Somerville.

“In today’s world, it is more important than ever that people feel connected – to each other, their community and to opportunities,” said state Sen. Page Walley. “And, for many, that connection begins with a strong wireless network which enables people to reach the information and resources they need when and where they need them. Announcements like this show why I continually work for policies that keep Tennessee a place which attract investment in modern communications technology.”

The new site will also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked just for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.

“We are continually boosting network reliability and capacity because we understand how important it is for our customers to stay connected,” said Kathy Sager, Regional Director of External Affairs for AT&T Tennessee. “This new tower helps residents get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play. And it’s giving first responders on FirstNet – America’s public safety network – access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.”

From 2020-2022, AT&T invested nearly $1.4 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in Tennessee to connect more people to greater possibility.
