Everything we do is with connection in mind. More connection means more opportunity and more possibility for cities, counties and states across the country.
In Mississippi, we invested more than $1.3 billion in our network infrastructure from 2020-2024 to connect more people to greater possibility. We’re working to expand access to broadband to as many residents as possible.
Here’s the latest on how we’re making it happen.
Public Private Projects
AT&T and State of Mississippi Enter Public-Private Project to Deliver Fiber-Powered Broadband to Portions of Leake, Neshoba, Hinds, and Rankin Counties.
AT&T and the State of Mississippi have entered into contracts to expand AT&T Fiber to more than 5,300 residential and business locations in Mississippi as part of a $30.5 million public-private project.
This public-private collaboration is an example of AT&T’s work with local governments to expand internet access. State officials used federal funds made available by the American Resue Plan Act to help bring fiber internet to the area. Mississippi will invest nearly $16 million, and AT&T will invest more than $14 million in the project to provide fiber to more than 5,300 homes and small businesses.
“We are proud to work with Governor Reeves, the Legislature, the BEAM team, and local leaders in counties across the state to help close the digital divide,” said Michael Walker, vice-president, AT&T Mississippi. “AT&T’s fiber network is fast and reliable, and we look forward to helping build better futures for the businesses and people of Mississippi.”
In a statement authorized by the Rankin County Board of Supervisors, its spokesman said, “The Rankin County Board of Supervisors is pleased to participate in the expansion of broadband access to the citizens and small businesses of Rankin County. Rankin County is committed to economic expansion, job creation, and a higher standard of living for our citizens. Broadband expansion contributes to these important goals in direct and meaningful ways, and we are proud to support it.”
“Mississippi is committed to ensuring that every family, business, and community has access to the resources needed to thrive in the modern world,” said Robert Graham, Hinds County Board of Supervisors. “By working together with private partners like AT&T, we are making real progress toward closing the digital divide and bringing high-speed connectivity to more of our rural and underserved communities.”
“Expanding access to reliable, high-speed internet is one of the most important things we can do to support our families and local economy,” said Kevin Cumberland, Neshoba County Board of Supervisors. “This project helps connect more of our residents to jobs, education, and essential services.”
“With more homes and businesses gaining access to fiber, our county is taking a big step toward future-proofing our infrastructure,” said Joe Andy Helton, President, Leake County Board of Supervisors. “These kinds of investments open the door to innovation, growth, and better quality of life.”
“This fiber-optic expansion is a testament to what we can achieve when public goals align with private expertise,” said Lure Berry, Hinds County Administrator. “It’s a step toward ensuring that our community is not left behind in the digital era but is instead at the forefront, ready to lead and innovate.”
“Bringing broadband to underserved areas isn’t just about faster internet—it’s about creating opportunity,” said Jeff Mayo, Neshoba County Administrator. “This effort will help level the playing field for rural communities that have been overlooked for too long.”
“Broadband is the backbone of modern life, and this project helps extend it to more of our neighbors,” said Jimmy Brown, Leake County Administrator. “This collaboration means more kids can do homework at home, more seniors can connect with telehealth, and more entrepreneurs can stay competitive.”
The network buildout is expected to be complete by the end of 2026. Residents and businesses can learn more about AT&T Fiber at fiber.att.com and can sign up to be notified when service will be available at their address at att.com/notifyme.
