Teens Surprised with Free Laptops from AT&T, Human-I-T and Boys & Girls Club of Stamford

In Stamford, it’s estimated that more than 3,100 K-12 students1 don’t have digital basics at home, including access to the internet, computers or skills needed to benefit from the online world, an issue known as the digital divide.

At AT&T, we believe every student deserves an opportunity to make their dreams a reality, which is why we are working to help close the digital divide in Connecticut, and around the country.

With that mission in mind, AT&T joined with the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford to surprise more than 100 local students with free refurbished laptops. The laptop donation was announced during an open house hosted by the Boys & Girls Club, which allowed local teens to come and tour the Boys & Girls Club facilities, including the Club’s new gym. The Club’s many programs were on display during event, including their dance team and podcast facility. The laptops were made possible by an AT&T contribution to Human-I-T.

“Thanks to AT&T, Human-I-T, and the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford for this vital contribution to closing the digital divide in Stamford,” said State Representative Matt Blumenthal (D-Stamford). “Digital literacy is critical to full participation in economic and cultural life today and will only be more so in the future. These donated laptops will help ensure that at least 100 more young students will have the resources they need to succeed.”

These efforts are part of the AT&T Connected Learning initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption.

“These laptops will be a vital resource for our teens” said Craig Baker, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Stamford. “We appreciate AT&T’s donation and all our partners that help provide youth with tools to succeed.”

Boys & Girls Club of Stamford is a dedicated youth facility that is open daily, managed by professional staff, and made available and affordable to all youth. The Club serves more than 1,600 children (grades K-12), offering programs and services to promote and enhance their development.
