Keeping First Responders Connected: FirstNet Showcases Emergency Connectivity Solutions in Georgia

When first responders face emergencies, natural disasters, large-scale planned events, and as they carry out everyday operations, they depend on reliable communications to keep them connected in any situation.

With FirstNet®, Built with AT&T, we are proud to support the only nationwide wireless communications platform built with and for America’s first responders. In emergencies, every second counts, and FirstNet helps ensure first responders can reliably communicate and coordinate effectively and efficiently.

A key differentiator of FirstNet is its fleet of deployable assets, available 24/7 to public safety on FirstNet at any time upon request and at no additional cost. This dedicated fleet includes 190+ portable assets, including SatCOLTs (Satellite Cells on Light Trucks), CRDs (Compact Rapid Deployables), (RCVs) Response Communications Vehicles) and Flying COWs® (Cell on Wings). Each of these can be positioned to help enhance connectivity during natural disasters, local emergency situations, and large-scale planned events. To support first responders’ mental health and wellness, the FirstNet Health and Wellness Program offers ROG the Dog – the FirstNet therapy dog program that provides mental health and wellness support to disaster-affected communities and first responders.

Recently, Georgia policymakers, public safety officials, the military community and business and community leaders had the opportunity to witness firsthand FirstNet’s fleet of deployable assets on display at events in Georgia. The new cell site launch at Fort Benning and showcases at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta offered a look at the FirstNet solutions that can be deployed to help strengthen connectivity for public safety – when and where it’s needed most.

Celebrating Enhances Connectivity at Fort Benning and Camp Merrill

In April, we were proud to join the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority)
Fort Benning leaders, first responders, public safety officials and community leaders at Fort Benning to highlight how FirstNet is delivering unparalleled coverage, security and reliable connectivity for military personnel and public safety.

We celebrated the launch of two new cell sites – one at Fort Benning and one at Camp
Frank D. Merrill in Dahlonega. These new cell sites support first responders and the extended public safety community on FirstNet.

At the event, Fort Benning leaders and first responders had an opportunity to see the
FirstNet SatCOLT, a deployable network asset available to public safety. Supporting our military is a distinct honor, and we are proud to reinforce our commitment through our
continued investment in modern wireless infrastructure at Fort Benning and Camp Merrill to deliver the reliable connectivity military communities and public safety personnel count on every day – in the moments that matter most.

Georgia Chamber of Commerce Eggs & Issues

In January, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s Eggs & Issues event at Mercedes-Benz Stadium brought together more than 3,000 business leaders and elected officials from across the state, including statewide constitutional officers, legislative leaders and members of Georgia’s congressional delegation.

Before and after the program, attendees interacted with the SatCOLT and CRD on display and learned more about how these connectivity solutions can help provide additional coverage and capacity for public safety during emergencies and periods of heightened network demand. Drones were also on display and AT&T’s robotic dog was also on hand. FirstNet has the ability to leverage this asset to support public safety during disaster response and recovery if needed.

We appreciate Georgia policymakers prioritizing public safety and the needs of first responders across the state, including efforts that enhance emergency communications. Their commitment to smart, forward-looking policies helps improve preparedness and supports the connectivity that keeps our communities safe.

Planning for the World Stage: Atlanta Business Chronicle “Table of Experts”

In February, the Atlanta Business Chronicle hosted a “Table of Experts” discussion centered on Atlanta as a global destination for sports and entertainment and the collaboration, connectivity and public safety coordination that goes into Atlanta hosting major events.

I was honored to join the Atlanta Business Chronicle alongside Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, AMB Sports + Entertainment Vice President and CIO Kevin Pope and Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO William Pate, for a robust conversation that underscored the collaboration that makes these large-scale events possible.

With a complex safety and logistics plan occurring behind the scenes, reliable communications are foundational to making that plan work. When seconds count, the ability to coordinate resources, share situational awareness and communicate clearly can make a meaningful difference for public safety operations.

"The most important resource we have is our people. But that resource is not effective and they are not able to do what they need to do unless they are connected…Technology is a force multiplier for us, allowing us to make sure the information is where it needs to be quickly."

Guests saw these assets from the dedicated FirstNet fleet up close, including the SatCOLT, Flying COW, and CRD. Guests also saw drones and deployable solutions from the AT&T fleet including an LCT (LEO Cell Trailer) and the robotic dog. The event also highlighted the FirstNet Health & Wellness Coalition’s resources, including “Bailey,” one of the program’s therapy dogs. Launched by FirstNet in conjunction with Global Medical Response, more than 30 ROG the Dog therapy dogs are stationed across the country and specifically trained to support the health and well-being of first responders.
