Expanding Opportunity for Maryland’s Youth
Key insights
For many students, a reliable laptop isn’t just a tool. It is a gateway to learning, creativity, and future opportunities.
AT&T and Human I-T have teamed up with Community Youth Advance to provide 200 refurbished laptops for students in Prince George’s County, putting critical technology directly into the hands of students who need it most and helping expand access to learning and connection.
The first distribution took place at G. James Gholson Middle School in Landover. A second batch of 50 computers, funded by an AT&T contribution, was distributed during a special event at Greenbelt Middle School.
Additional distribution events were held at two more schools: William Wirt Middle School in Riverdale and Largo High School in Upper Marlboro.
At each location, students left with more than a device. They left with new ways to complete assignments, explore interests, and stay connected. For many students, that can mean logging into assignments from home, participating in virtual learning or exploring career interests that require reliable technology.
“A laptop in the hands of a motivated middle school scholar is a powerful catalyst. It doesn’t just assist them with completing assignments; it unlocks their full potential for digital literacy, creativity, and critical thinking. The value of this connection to the digital world—and the opportunities it creates for this young scholar—is truly immeasurable,” said Terra Harris, executive director, Community Youth Advance.
This effort is part of AT&T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.
We’re proud to continue to collaborate with organizations to help close the digital divide in Prince George’s County. Initiatives like this—alongside ongoing infrastructure investments—are key to expanding access to critical digital resources across Maryland.
Together, we’re helping more students stay connected and prepared for what comes next.
