Community partnerships are helping close the digital divide in Southern Nevada
Access to technology is about more than getting online. It is about creating opportunities for education, employment, healthcare, and everyday life. To help address barriers to digital participation in Southern Nevada, AT&T, Digitunity, and Mentor Me Now Foundation recently came together to provide devices and digital skills training for local residents.
During an event in Las Vegas, AT&T and Digitunity provided 40 refurbished laptops to Mentor Me Now Foundation for distribution to community members who lack access to reliable technology. The laptop giveaway coincided with an in-person digital literacy workshop designed to help local adults build the skills and confidence needed to navigate the digital world safely and effectively.
The effort addresses two key challenges associated with the digital divide: access to connected devices and the ability to use technology effectively. According to U.S. Census Bureau data referenced by the organizations, millions of Americans still lack access to the internet or the devices needed to fully participate in today’s digital economy. Many others have access but need additional support developing digital skills.
“Digital skills open doors for everyone in our communities,” said Omar Saucedo, Director of External Affairs for AT&T Nevada. “By teaming up with Digitunity and Mentor Me Now Foundation, we’re making it easier for people to get hands-on with technology and tap into all the amazing opportunities the internet offers.”
Workshop participants received training using resources from Digitallearn.org and AT&T ScreenReady®. Sessions are available in both English and Spanish and cover topics such as internet use, video conferencing, mobile device basics, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, and avoiding online scams.
For Digitunity, the event reflects its mission to make computer ownership possible for everyone.
“Digitunity’s mission is straightforward: make computer ownership possible for everyone,” said Scot Henley, Executive Director of Digitunity. “When individuals and families own a computer, the door to education, employment, and opportunity stays open. Through the 3 Southern States Connected Communities Program, supported by AT&T, we are investing in sustained, community-rooted efforts that create lasting change.”
Community impact is also central to the work of Mentor Me Now Foundation, which focuses on empowering youth, young adults, and families through mentorship, workforce readiness, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, and life skills development.
“Technology should never be a barrier to opportunity,” said Dr. LaTonya Miller, Founder and Board Chair of Mentor Me Now Foundation. “Digital literacy is a gateway to education, employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong success. We are honored to collaborate with AT&T and Digitunity to equip individuals and families with both the devices and the skills they need to thrive in today’s digital world.”
This initiative is part of AT&T’s broader commitment to help bridge the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability, and safe adoption. Since 2021, AT&T has committed $5 billion to programs designed to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030, including the distribution of 30,000 laptops nationwide in 2026.
By combining device access with digital skills training, AT&T, Digitunity, and Mentor Me Now Foundation are helping more Las Vegas residents gain the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to participate in an increasingly connected world.
