Addressing the digital divide
Building Bright Futures: AT&T Opens Wisconsin’s First Connected Learning Center at the Greater Milwaukee Urban League
At AT&T, our corporate responsibility work is dedicated to bridging that digital divide. Today, we’re over halfway to our goal of investing $5 billion by 2030 to narrow the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability, and safe adoption.
In Wisconsin, we’re teaming up with local non-profits in our communities to connect more students, families, and neighbors to the digital tools and resources they need.
We’ve been busy in Wisconsin so far this year!
In January, AT&T and Compudopt provided 50 laptops to students attending Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). We also provided a $25,000 AT&T community investment to the MATC Foundation to support the college’s digital literacy programs.
Every student deserves the opportunity to participate fully in today’s connected world, and we’re proud to support MATC’s mission to build a brighter future for all.
“Access to technology is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity,” said Dr. Anthony Cruz, President, Milwaukee Area Technical College. “For our students facing digital barriers, these laptops from AT&T will help them have the technology tools they need to not only succeed academically, but to also develop career skills. And with AT&T’s generous $25,000 contribution, we can enhance our Integrated Education & Training Program to help our students have the digital literacy skills they need to succeed in the workplace.”
In February, we provided a $30,000 AT&T community investment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County to expand their digital literacy programs. And in December, we donated 150 laptops to BGC teens with digital barriers – opening doors to learning, creativity, and growth.
We are proud to support the Boys & Girls Clubs as they work to bridge the digital divide for youth in need.
“Our mission is to inspire and empower all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential,” said Michael Johnson, President & Chief Executive Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County. “In today’s online world, that means making sure our youth have digital skills, training, and access to devices. Thanks to AT&T’s continued support, we are so excited to expand our digital literacy programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs to help our youth succeed.”
In March, AT&T and Compudopt donated 50 laptops to the Door County Economic Development Corporation to provide to families with digital barriers. We also joined New North, Inc. to offer digital literacy training for laptop recipients to help them build digital skills.
We believe access to technology and the skills to use it confidently go hand in hand. We’re proud to help Door County residents overcome digital barriers and build essential skills to be connected in today’s online world.
“We’re grateful to AT&T for this generous laptop donation, which will make a real difference for Door County families and residents affected by the digital divide,” said Michelle Lawrie, Executive Director, Door County Economic Development Corporation. “In today’s world, reliable access to technology is essential for education, employment, and everyday life. These laptops will help ensure more people in our community have the tools they need to stay connected, build skills, and fully participate in our online society.”
