Driving innovation and competitiveness
Philadelphia City Council Recognizes May 7, 2026, “Alexander Graham Bell and AT&T Day in the City of Philadelphia”
As the nation looks ahead to America’s 250th birthday, AT&T is marking this historic milestone by celebrating the connections, physical, digital, and human, that have helped shape our country.
For more than 150 years, AT&T has played a vital role in connecting America. From the earliest days of the telephone to today’s advanced communications networks, our work has supported innovation, economic growth, public safety, and daily life in communities across the country.
That legacy is at the heart of our America 250 celebration. Because at AT&T, American has always been our first name.
One of the most visible ways AT&T is honoring America’s 250th birthday is through the installation of specially designed, commemorative maintenance covers in 7 cities nationwide. These permanent markers recognize a historic national moment while drawing attention to the infrastructure that quietly and reliably keeps America connected.
Did you know? AT&T maintenance covers sit above our underground fiber network and allow easy access to our technicians to keep the network Americans rely on running.
They serve as a reminder that strong networks, much like a strong nation, are built to endure, often out of sight, but always essential.
AT&T employees are also coming together across the country to raise 250 American flags at company locations and events nationwide. This employee-led effort reflects the pride our people take in their work and in the role AT&T plays in connecting families, businesses, first responders, and communities every day.
These activations are about more than celebration; they’re about recognizing shared values, service, and responsibility.
Earlier this year in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the first phone call, we announced a $250 billion commitment to advance connectivity in the United States. This commitment is about investing in the connectivity America relies on and investing in the people that make America’s workforce thrive.
Through these efforts, AT&T is highlighting our long-standing commitment to the country we’ve served for generations. From key technological milestones like the first phone call, to our employees today who dig trenches and climb poles to provide America the connectivity they rely on every day.

As America celebrates 250 years, AT&T is proud to help honor the past by continuing to connect the future.
