Distance learning enhanced at Big Brothers Big Sisters by AT&T device donation

Now more than ever connecting families, students and mentors with the resources they need is paramount. That is why we are grateful to play a small part in the distance learning efforts being undertaken by Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters in Connecticut.

Over the past month, our AT&T Connecticut team worked closely with Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters (NBBBS) to provide the organization with a donation of 100 devices from AT&T.

The devices will be used by low income, high risk children served by NBBBS volunteer mentors. With these devices, children will be able to continue engaging in distance learning for the remainder of the school year but also into and throughout the summer.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, NBBBS has enacted new guidelines, including virtual mentoring, to continue serving the children and families of Connecticut.

Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters’ vision is that all children achieve success in life.  Their mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.  Included in that is accountability achieved by partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in the community who are accountable for each child in their program achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors and educational success.

The dedicated volunteers and staff members at NBBBS are working hard to make sure education continues, especially for those who may have fallen through the cracks with distance learning during the COVID-19 crisis. We hope these phones will enable students and mentors to remain connected and on track during this critical time.

This device donation is part of a larger effort by AT&T to support distance learning initiatives during the COVID-19 crisis. In addition to local donations such as this, the company has supported numerous distance learning initiatives through its Distance Learning & Family Connections Fund.
