What’s the news? AT&T customers and FirstNet subscribers on America’s public safety network in Pennsylvania got a big boost in wireless connectivity. We’ve added new cell sites to enhance the state’s mobile broadband coverage and help give residents and first responders on FirstNet®, Built with AT&T, faster, more reliable wireless service. Our investment will help customers get the most out of their mobile devices.
The new sites were turned on in the following communities:
- Berks County: A new site boosts coverage and capacity in Reading, PA along Routes 73 and 61 near Ontelaunee Lake.
- Bradford County: This new site boosts coverage and capacity in Sheshequin Township along the Susquehanna River. It also serves Ulster on the other side of the Susquehanna River as well as the Route 220, 1043 and Ghent Hill Road corridors through the area.
- Cambria County: A new site boosts coverage and capacity in Johnstown around Central Ave., Franklin Street and SR-756.
- Clearfield County: A new site boosts coverage and capacity to the town of Grampian and along SR-219. A second site will provide coverage and capacity to the town of Luthersburg as well Routes 322 and 219.
- Indiana County: A new site improves coverage in the town of Gipsy and along SR-286 and Gipsy Road.
- Lackawanna County: This new site boosts coverage and capacity in downtown Olyphant. It will also cover Main Street and Route 347.
- Lehigh County: A new site boosts coverage and capacity in Center Valley along Route 309 and Lanark Road.
- McKean/Potter Counties: A new site boosts coverage and capacity in Port Allegany serving the Route 6 corridor east of Port Allegany along the McKean/Potter County border.
- Schuylkill County: A new site boosts coverage and capacity in Shenandoah, PA along Routes 924 and 54.
- Somerset County: A new site boosts coverage and capacity in Rockwood and New Centerville and along SR-281.
- Wayne County: A new site boosts coverage and capacity to the Union Dale community as well as Route 4023/Belmont Turnpike and Brace Brook Road.
Why is this important? We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. That’s why we’re also boosting network reliability and capacity as we expand our network. This helps Pennsylvania’s residents and visitors get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play. And it’s giving first responders on FirstNet – America’s public safety network – access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.
These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked just for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.
