AT&T Plans to Connect More Kansans with Fiber in 2025

As Kansas policymakers continue to focus on efforts to bridge the digital divide and spur private sector investment in the state, AT&T plans to expand AT&T Fiber to more than 40,000 additional residential and business locations passed by the end of 2025 – a 34 percent increase over the number of locations passed in 2024.* The expanded network will give more customers access to super-fast internet speeds up to 5-Gigs.1

I joined my colleagues in Topeka and other business, civic and government leaders to highlight the planned 2025 expansion during a special event at our AT&T store in Topeka.

Through the end of May 2025, we passed more than 5,000 living units in the Topeka area, including Aquarian Acres, Bishop Stadium, Dellwood Acres/Timberlane, Eagle Point, Euclid Park, Great Overland Station, Indian Hills, McFarland Farms, Skyline Park, SW Oakley Avenue, and Westridge/Brookfield, where the AT&T store is located.

In 2024, Kansas lawmakers passed legislation that eliminated taxes on broadband equipment and otherwise streamlined provisions of the tax code. These policies help allow private-sector investments to be more effective and go directly to efforts to bridge the digital divide, promote economic development and connect more Kansans to the internet.

AT&T is the state’s largest provider of 100 percent fiber-optic connectivity, with service available to more than 370,000 customer locations in Kansas as of the end of 2024.

Kansas lawmakers – including Senate President Ty Masterson, Speaker Dan Hawkins, Senate Tax Chair Caryn Tyson and House Tax Chairman Adam Smith – have promoted important policies, including sales tax reforms, that have incentivized additional broadband investment in the state. Simply put, smart public policy helps welcome private-sector investments. We will continue to work to ensure Kansans have access to the most modern connectivity services available.

In recent years, public officials at the federal, state, and local levels have aligned with the private sector to find ways to bridge the digital divide. Often, that alignment has been most evident in broadband grant programs, but the efforts of Kansas lawmakers show that smart policies can spur private sector expansions of modern connectivity.

Stephanie Moran from the Greater Topeka Partnership was among the local business leaders who joined us for the celebration. During the special event, Stephanie told us:

“High-speed internet access is a game changer for our residents, students, and businesses. AT&T’s continued investment in Topeka helps strengthen our economic competitiveness, expands access to critical digital services, and positions our community for long-term success in an increasingly connected world.”

From 2020 to 2024, AT&T invested nearly $1.2 billion in our wireless and wireline networks in Kansas, including more than $225 million in the Topeka area. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and their businesses.
