AT&T Helps Johns Hopkins CTY Scholars Program Improve Kids’ Digital Literacy

During the past few weeks, I’ve been honored to visit with young people in Maryland and Washington, DC, to talk about how they use digital tools and what skills they will need in the future.

I’ve left these events inspired and optimistic.

My most recent visit was with student participants from The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) in Baltimore. We contributed $25,000 to support the CTY Scholars Program, a scholarship and advising program for academically advanced low-income and underrepresented high school students.

The contribution provides CTY Scholars with digital skills training in areas such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google, and Microsoft Bookings. They’ll also be able to access The Achievery, our free online learning platform created by that provides K-12 students with engaging, entertaining content and learning activities for everywhere students learn, along with other tools and resources available through the AT&T Connected Learning initiative.

Amy Lynne Shelton, PhD, Executive Director, of CTY told me the CTY Scholars Program is life-changing for their students.

“This generous grant from AT&T helps to support our efforts to educate and advise these academically advanced pre-college students so they can achieve their full potential as learners and global citizens in high school, college, and beyond,” Shelton shared.

Here’s what J’ovanny Jno-Pierre, a CTY Scholar, had to say: “Thanks to the CTY Scholars Program, I have been given ample opportunities that I could have never even thought of attaining without it. I can safely say that they made me feel much more confident in what my future college and career experiences have in store for me.”

CTY has been helping to prepare the next generation of leaders for Maryland and the nation, including evolving its programs so they are on the cutting-edge of technology. Our support will enable CTY and students like J’ovanny to continue to adapt to the fast-changing digital landscape.
