AT&T Boosts Mobile Internet Coverage in Indianapolis at Indiana Government Centers North and South

What’s the news? AT&T boosted its mobile internet coverage at the Indiana Government Centers North and South next to the statehouse in downtown Indianapolis with a new antenna system to give customers stronger connections.

“We’re continuing to invest in our network so customers can enjoy their devices at both of the Government Center buildings.

Bill Soards — President, AT&T Indiana

“We’re working every day to keep our customers connected wherever they are, no matter what they’re doing – making a call, texting, or checking their personal or work schedules,” said Bill Soards, president, AT&T Indiana. “We’re continuing to invest in our network so customers can enjoy their devices at both of the Government Center buildings. This has been particularly important this year, as the Indiana House of Representatives continues to conduct some of its business in these buildings during the pandemic.”

Why is this important? We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. That’s why we’re upgrading our network using a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). A DAS is made of numerous, small antennas that distribute AT&T wireless network coverage to provide extra cellular capacity and shorten the distance a call or text must travel. Simply put—calls, texts and posts are less likely to get stuck in a data “traffic jam.”

This also helps Indianapolis residents, state legislators and state employees get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play. And it’s giving first responders on FirstNet – America’s public safety network – access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.

What is FirstNet? FirstNet is the only nationwide, high-speed broadband communications platform dedicated to and purpose-built for America’s first responders and the extended public safety community. It is built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the federal government. The FirstNet network is providing public safety with truly dedicated coverage and capacity when they need it, unique benefits like always-on priority and preemption, and high-quality Band 14 spectrum. These advanced capabilities help fire, EMS, law enforcement save lives and protect communities.

Committed to our Networks: From 2017-2019, we invested more than $450 million in our wireless and wired networks in Indianapolis. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and their businesses.

What people are saying:

“The Indiana State Government complex is the epicenter for the services we provide to Indiana public safety professionals, and this boost to indoor coverage is a major technology win,” said Kelly Dignin, executive director, Integrated Public Safety Commission.  “It’s just another example of how our partnership with FirstNet and AT&T is reaping big results for first responders – and the public they serve.”
