With summer vacation, travel and tourist season approaching, we’re working to help ensure that residents and tourists on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard stay connected.
Since last summer, AT&T has installed 10 new cell sites on the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard and completed upgrades to 17 additional sites to help bring enhanced 5G service and coverage to residents and visitors.
“When a company invests in its cellular network and infrastructure, as AT&T has done on the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard, businesses and consumers alike benefit from an enhanced wireless experience,” said Brooke M. Thomson, President and CEO of Associated Industries of Massachusetts. “Faster speeds and streamlined connectivity help increase productivity, efficiencies and opportunities for economic growth, especially as summer begins and tourism increases. We all know traffic increases on the Cape during the summer months and applaud AT&T’s efforts to ease the network congestion for residents, visitors and businesses.”
Some beachgoers will see an upgraded AT&T wireless experience thanks to enhancements in places like Falmouth, Yarmouth, Dennis and more.
Cape and Vineyard areas served by the new and upgraded sites are:
- Dennisport
- Sandwich
- Centerville
- Marston Mills
- Barnstable
- Yarmouth
- Falmouth
- Oak Bluffs
Some of these enhancements also support first responders and the extended public safety community on FirstNet, Built with AT&T – America’s public safety network by bringing Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.
Created by the U.S. Congress, FirstNet was shaped by the first responder community’s vision following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It is built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the FirstNet Authority – an independent authority within the federal government.
“Connectivity is key to ensuring the safety or our residents and Firefighters. In the past, the influx of summer visitors congested our network and led to communication challenges. FirstNet changed all that, prioritizing public safety communications and helping our firefighters stay connected when we need it most,” said Chief John Burke, Sandwich Fire Department. “We appreciate AT&T and FirstNet’s continued commitment and investment in their Cape and Islands network. These new sites and upgrades are a huge benefit to public safety, residents and visitors.”
From 2020 to 2024, AT&T invested nearly $875 million in its wireless network in Massachusetts. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance.
We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected, especially during the summer on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. These new network resources will help residents, businesses and visitors get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play. And we have a responsibility unlike any other network provider to support the public safety mission by bringing Massachusetts first responders greater access to the reliable connectivity they need through Band 14 and FirstNet.
