To Connect All Americans, We Must Ensure Affordable Internet is a Priority

Over the past few years, we’ve all seen that internet connectivity is a tide that can help lift all boats. When Congress passed the bipartisan infrastructure law in 2021, lawmakers recognized that while all Americans need the benefits of broadband access, some face financial challenges that make it difficult for them to afford internet service.  That legislation’s launch of the Affordable Connectivity Program has been a difference-maker for millions – one that helps Americans in every state advance their education, find a job, obtain health care, and enrich their lives in many other ways – and now is the time for Congress to solidify this crucial support system.  Lessons learned from the ACP and other connectivity subsidy programs can help ensure that the Nation moves forward in a way that is targeted, efficient, and sustainable for the long term. There is eagerness from all Americans to tap into the benefits of the internet, and we all benefit from universal connectivity.  Together we must remove as many barriers as possible.
