Every Texan Should Have Access to the Internet. Tell the Legislature to Act Now.
There’s still time this legislative session to help bridge the digital divide in Texas. Today, 7 million Texans lack broadband access. We need to fast-track broadband expansion in our state.
As an employee, you can be proud that AT&T is doing its part to tackle these challenges and committed $2 billion from 2021–2023 through our companywide AT&T Connected Learning initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. Even with our multi-billion-dollar investments, it will take a combination of the private sector and the State of Texas to invest in building broadband infrastructure to reach every Texan.
With a record $32 billion in budget surplus, Texas can and should invest state funds to connect our state. Those funds – which would be put before Texas voters this November for approval – would help our first responders and small businesses in urban and rural communities have access to the Internet.
HB 9 & HJR 125 include:
- $1 billion for public safety & Next Generation 9-1-1
- $1 billion for last-mile broadband connections
