AT&T’s Commitment to Social Justice, Economic Empowerment, and Equality Makes an Impact in Los Angeles

As we take time to reflect and celebrate Black History Month, I want to share our company’s ongoing commitment to connect and strengthen our communities and improve the lives of our customers and employees across California.

I am proud of our recent announcement that our company has spent $3.1 billion on goods and services from Black suppliers, surpassing our $3 billion two-year commitment to drive diversity and inclusion across our business and communities where we live and work. This month, we’re recognizing Black Future Makers to celebrate Black people who are pushing culture forward and making an impact on the future of the Black community and our world.

In July 2020, we made a $10 million commitment for economic opportunity in Black and underserved communities, supporting community organizations that are making a positive impact on social equality in California.

In Los Angeles, we’re supporting organizations through our Believe Los Angeles initiative. Believe Los Angeles is a grassroots, employee-driven campaign focused on leveraging AT&T’s assets in the Los Angeles market to support workforce development and career readiness, with a special emphasis on digital media and entertainment career opportunities for underserved students.

Since we cannot be together during the pandemic, we want to share this video of how AT&T California is advancing social justice and empowering economic opportunity.

We also are continuing our commitment to create a more diverse workforce and inclusive culture. Our Black employees make up more than 18% of AT&T’s U.S. workforce. Our Employee Resource Group NETwork BICP (Black Integrated Communications Professionals) has more than 11,000 employee members in 26 chapters across the U.S. and is dedicated to creating opportunities, promoting achievement, and addressing needs specific to the Black community and AT&T employees.

AT&T’s company values champion equality, diversity, inclusion, and economic mobility. As we emerge from the pandemic, it is more important than ever for us to support the communities where we live and work. AT&T is committed and investing in community-based partners that foster upward mobility for underserved communities and communities of color.
