AT&T North Carolina is stepping forward to support North Carolina organizations assisting first responders, medical personnel and families directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than $250,000 will help provide nourishing food for local first responders, healthcare workers and others struggling with food insecurity, as well as helping provide online connectivity for students and families who might not otherwise have access to broadband services.

The North Carolina organizations receiving funding include:
- Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, the Urban League of Winston-Salem, the Durham Public Schools Foundation, Greensboro Urban Ministries and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC – which are serving people who are food-insecure;
- The Great Balls of Fire Foundation, and the Feed the Firefighters Foundation – which are working with local restaurants to provide food for first responders;
- The NC Healthcare Foundation and Atrium Health Foundation – which are supporting healthcare workers;
- The Kramden Institute – which provides digital learning and tools to low-income families; and
- The North Carolina Business Committee for Education – which is helping close the “Homework Gap” by bringing connectivity to students who do not otherwise have access to broadband.

At the national level, AT&T’s response to COVID-19 includes:
- For a limited time, waiving Home Internet Data Overage Charges for all AT&T Internet and AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet consumers. Additionally, we’ll continue to offer internet access for qualifying low-income households at $10 a month through our Access from AT&T program;
- Waving late fees for wireless customers impacted by COVID-19 and automatically adding 15GB of mobile hotspot with tethering;
- Providing eligible nurses and physicians three months of free wireless service for a smartphone or tablet with eligible new or existing FirstNet Mobile–Responder plan.1 FirstNet is the nationwide wireless communications network designed for first responders and those who support them;
- Helping feed front line responders and others in need impacted by COVID-19 through a $5.5 million initiative which began with a $1.5 million contribution to World Central Kitchen and contributions to Feeding America, the Salvation Army and Team Rubicon and a host of local organizations across the country. Consumers can also get involved through a text-to-give program. Through the program, you can donate $10 to World Central Kitchen (text FOOD to 80100), Feeding America (text America to 5055), Team Rubicon (text RUBICON to 2022) or Salvation Army (text HOPE to 5200) increasing the impact we can have from coast to coast; and
- 55 million students now learning from home in the U.S. alone, AT&T created a $10 million Distance Learning and Family Connections Fund to give parents, students and teachers tools they need. The fund also provides resources to maintain meaningful connections and bonding opportunities for those isolated from family and friends.
