AT&T Donates $10,000 to Mission Alabama to Support Those Impacted by COVID-19

AT&T is donating $10,000 to Mission Alabama to support those most impacted by COVID-19 in Jefferson County. The contribution will support the nonprofit’s I CARE ALABAMA initiative, an emergency food distribution plan being used during the pandemic.

The combination of the lack of school meals and job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic has increased food insecurity in Jefferson County. I CARE ALABAMA is a united response from the faith community in concert with the private and public sectors.

“The global pandemic has created additional food insecurity challenges for individuals struggling with hunger,” said Frank Woodson, executive director of Mission Alabama. “AT&T’s generous support helps us provide nutritious hunger-relief and stability for our neighbors during this uncertain time.”

The I CARE ALABAMA emergency food distribution plan involves a central hub which will distribute 8,000 food boxes weekly and 7 satellite sites which will distribute 12,000 food boxes weekly.

“Through the support of dedicated community stewards like AT&T, Mission Alabama’s I CARE ALABAMA initiative is better positioned to support our Jefferson County residents, especially now at a time it is needed most,” said Senator Rodger Smitherman. “The global pandemic has presented challenges for so many, and it’s great to see our community coming together to help neighbors remove the stress of not knowing where their next meal is coming from.”

Mission Alabama was created to connect and mobilize the greater Birmingham region in a concerted effort to address the needs of the most vulnerable. The organization fosters collaboration between faith, corporate, government, and community-based organizations working together to identify the areas across Jefferson County in most need. Mission Alabama’s goal is building strategic bridges to create effective partnerships that meets the needs in the community.

“AT&T remains focused on the strength of the communities we serve.”
