AT&T Contributes $50,000 to University of Kentucky HealthCare Foundation

Across the country – and around the world – first responders and medical personnel are playing a critical role in helping care for their communities during the COVID-19 crisis. One of our core values at AT&T is making a difference in our communities. So, to support Kentucky families and those who are combatting the pandemic, AT&T is contributing $50,000 to expand UK HealthCare’s critical care telehealth program.

“Helping these critical care teams better serve their patients is more important than ever.”

Hood Harris, President – AT&T Kentucky

“The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging daily life as we know it, and when you think about the actions required to help ensure the safety of our society, medical professionals are the first line of defense,” said Hood Harris, AT&T Kentucky President. “Helping these critical care teams better serve their patients is more important than ever, and as a company that has spent the last 140-years connecting Kentuckians, supporting this telehealth initiative was a natural fit.”

The contribution will allow UK HealthCare’s critical care telehealth program, known as eICU, to add smart cameras to six intensive care rooms, providing advanced technology capable of monitoring vital signs and alerting staff to potential problems before patient deterioration. The program enables a co-located team of doctors and nurses to remotely monitor patients in the ICU regardless of patient location, providing 24/7 clinical over watch for our most critically ill patients.

“This tremendous gift will allow us to continue expansion of our eICU program, which provides a second set of eyes for the clinical care being delivered to our most critically ill patients,” said Julia P. Blackburn, DNP, RN, NE-BC, eICU Operations Director for UK HealthCare. “But during this unprecedented time of COVID-19, it also allows us to keep our front-line staff safe and preserve precious resources like PPE.”
