AT&T Connecting Rural Kentucky with High-Speed Internet Service

AT&T – through its participation in the FCC’s Connect America Fund – has extended high-speed Internet service to more than 67,000 homes and businesses in rural parts of 60 Kentucky counties.

In the first four months of 2020, we have continued to expand access to new Fixed-Wireless Internet services at more than 30 additional cellular towers. This effort makes high-speed Internet available to even more rural customers across the state, as we work to meet our goal of delivering access to approximately 16,000 additional locations by the end of this year.

Fixed-Wireless Internet delivers an internet connection with typical download speeds of 25Mbps.1 The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business, creating an efficient way to deliver last-mile high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas.

The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics. AT&T has nearly 1.5 million strand miles of AT&T fiber optics covering Kentucky, which enables the company to offer a wide variety of products and services delivering the high-speed connectivity Kentucky businesses and residents need.

The service is available to locations in rural parts of the following Counties:

Anderson Franklin Livingston Owen
Bell Fulton Logan Pike
Bourbon Graves Lyon Powell
Boyle Hancock Madison Scott
Breathitt Hardin Marshall Shelby
Breckinridge Harlan Martin Simpson
Butler Harrison Mason Spencer
Caldwell Henderson McLean Todd
Calloway Henry Mercer Trigg
Carroll Hickman Montgomery Trimble
Christian Hopkins Muhlenberg Union
Clark Johnson Nelson Warren
Crittenden Knox Nicholas Washington
Daviess Lee Ohio Webster

“AT&T is proud to work with our local, state and federal leadership to provide the connectivity Kentucky’s residents and businesses demand,” said Hood Harris, President, AT&T Kentucky. “We are keeping residents and businesses across Kentucky connected, and while we recognize that there is more work to be done, the continued deployment of this innovative service in rural communities and the ongoing enhancement of our statewide network reflects our commitment to this commonwealth.”
