AT&T Boosts Network Speeds for Sioux Falls Area Residents and First Responders

AT&T customers and FirstNet subscribers in Sioux Falls and surrounding areas got a big boost in wireless connectivity with network enhancements recently implemented at 15 different cell sites across the Sioux Falls metropolitan area. The enhancements, which include bringing high-quality Band 14 spectrum, will give first responders, residents, visitors and businesses faster, more reliable wireless services and enable them to get the most out of their mobile devices.

Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked just for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by first responders on FirstNet, AT&T customers can also take advantage of the additional network capacity provided by Band 14.

“AT&T’s support for first responders and its customers is greatly appreciated,” said Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken. “The events of 2020 have demonstrated the importance of technology to be connected for socialization as well as remote work, education and health care needs. I’m glad to see the area’s wireless network speeds enhanced to AT&T and FirstNet service in Sioux Falls.”

During the global COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve worked continuously to help ensure that our wireless broadband network is reliable and functioning at peak efficiency. New infrastructure and upgrades to existing infrastructure implemented over the past few months are now providing the fastest and most reliable service to both first responders using FirstNet and our customers.

FirstNet is the nationwide, wireless communications platform dedicated to America’s first responders and public safety community. Mandated by Congress, it’s designed to strengthen and modernize public safety communications, helping first responders connect to the critical information they need – every day and in every emergency. FirstNet is built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) – an independent agency within the federal government.

“South Dakota’s first responders deserve reliable coverage across the state to help them effectively and efficiently address incidents.” Cheryl Riley – President, AT&T Northern Plains States

“South Dakota’s first responders deserve reliable coverage across the state to help them effectively and efficiently address incidents. And with FirstNet and these network enhancements, that’s exactly what they’re getting,” said Cheryl Riley, President, AT&T Northern Plains States. “We couldn’t be more pleased to support the public safety mission and bring Sioux Falls’ first responders – and residents – greater access to the connectivity they need.”
